Springfield (MA) City Library

Guidelines for Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Accommodations

We are aware that some staff and library patrons are sensitive to strong scents from perfume, cologne, hairspray, deodorants and other personal care products. We recently learned that this condition, referred to as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, falls under the auspices of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments of 2008. Many businesses and workplaces are implementing guidelines to address this matter.

We would like everyone to be aware of this condition some of our coworkers and library users have, and to accommodate them by using unscented or low-scent products whenever possible. And, please do not use strongly scented air fresheners in the workplace.

We will also request that our cleaning service make every effort to use products that comply with these guidelines.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
