The Springfield City Library is pleased to present the following genealogy classes in June:

Databases from the Massachusetts Archives
Tuesday, June 9, 3:30 - 4:30 pm

Janis Duffy, Reference Supervisor of the Massachusetts State Archive, will demonstrate the online databases available for free on the website of the Secretary of the Commonwealth. The databases include an index of Massachusetts Vital Records from 1841-1910, Passenger Manifests from 1848-1891, and the index of the "Felt Collection" which includes important documents from the Colonial period and early statehood.

Janis P. Duffy is the Reference Supervisor at the Massachusetts State Archives and coordinator of the Archives Volunteer Program. She is Past President of TIARA (The Irish Ancestral Research Association). Janis has been pursuing her roots for almost 20 years and has led several research trips to Ireland and Salt Lake City.

The Massachusetts Archives is located on a 4.5-acre site on Columbia Point in the Dorchester section of Boston. The building houses the Archives, the Commonwealth Museum, a branch of the Judicial Archives, the Massachusetts Historical Commission, and the State Record Center. The Archives' collections are public records and are open to all for research.

Genealogy and Your Computer - a Perfect Marriage
Tuesday, June 16, 10:00 - 11:30 am
Central Library Computer Lab


Cliff’s workshop will demonstrate the many ways computer technology has enhanced the field of family history research. Using the library’s computer lab, we will explore some genealogy websites, demonstrate the most popular genealogy software package, and discuss research on the web. Participants should be familiar with computers.

Cliff McCarthy of the Genealogy and Local History Library, Connecticut Valley Historical Museum, Springfield Museums, has more than 30 years of genealogical research experience.
