Planning Committee Meeting Update

Mr. Cary stated that the Strategic Planning and the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) component was a positive experience for him, and that he enjoyed it. He related that he recently saw Mayor Sarno and asked for his help naming new Library Commissioners. Mr. Cary stated that current Library Commissioners would suggest people to fill the vacancies and the Commission would submit those names to the Mayor's Office. Mr. Cary expressed that the library's mission statement should be easy to remember. He spoke about the strategic planning draft, A Brighter Future, by Lyrasis consultant Stephen Spohn. |

| 5. Director's Report: |
Library Director Molly Fogarty agreed that a positive and uplifting library strategic plan document is being finalized.
Discussion of the Library Gift Policy was postponed.
Ms. Fogarty spoke about our Meeting Room Use Policy and the possibility of hosting religious services. She stated that this issue has been forwarded to the City Law Department for review.
Ms. Fogarty told Commissioners about the yard work done in the Reading Garden at the Mason Square Branch Library, complimenting library maintenance staff for their work.
A meeting will be held at the Mason Square Branch Library tomorrow, July 8, to discuss furniture and shelving.
Ms. Fogarty reported that the library recently launched it's new website format/look, including dropdown menus, photos and new colors.
City Clerk Wayman Lee sent the Library Dept. new information on the open meeting law. |

| 6. Other Business: |
Janet Stupak reported that she and reference librarian Doris Madsen are working on one of the large sneakers for the Art and Soles public art project. Their design is titled “Step into the Library.” Twenty of the large fiberglass sneakers will be installed around downtown Springfield in the next couple of weeks.
A ceremony, with presentation of a plaque commemorating and honoring servicemen from the Brightwood section of Springfield, will take place at noon on Friday, July 23 at the Brightwood Branch Library, 359 Plainfield Street. Mayor Sarno is expected to attend. The plaque will be installed at the Brightwood Branch Library. |
