1. Approval of Minutes from the April 4, 2012 Library Commission Meeting

Commissioner Moriarty made a motion to accept the minutes of the April 4, 2012 meeting of the Springfield Library Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Fyntrilakis seconded the motion.
The motion passed. |

3. Commission Committee Reports:
|
Computer Use and Internet Policy Language Change. Reference to filtering on Library Computers was eliminated. Computers in children's areas will be set to default to the Children's Home Page, which is designed specifically to guide children to age-appropriate content. The Commission confirmed the wording of the revised Computer Use and Internet Policy Language.

4. Chairman's Report:
|
Steve Cary is planning on attending tonight's meeting of the City's Department of Capital Asset Construction regarding the renovation of Mary Dryden Elementary School. Steve feels it is important to have a presence. |

5. Director's Report:
|
John Ramsay, Assistant Library Director reported there would be a public hearing on May 15, 2012 at 11 am in City Hall to discuss the FY 13 Budget. The Forest Park Renovation Project – All books and furniture have been removed and stored. The old metal shelving has been removed as well. The building of the new wall will begin soon.
National Library week was very successful. Over 13,000 visitors and all programs were well attended. Commissioner Fyntrilakis attended all but two.
Community Relations Coordinator Janet Stupak will participate as a panelist for a program on Public Relations at the upcoming Conference of the Massachusetts Library Association.
The Library has submitted a nomination under the category of Community Involvement to the Urban Libraries Council, recognizing the Library's role in the aftermath of the June 1 tornado.
A meeting with Spirit of Springfield is scheduled for May 16 to discuss the fundraising and celebration event in April 2013 as part of the $25,000 grant from MassMutual.

Sixteen Acres continues to be very busy with less employees due to recent retirements.
Councilor Tim Allen holds office hours at the East Forest Park Branch. |
