Programs for Teens


Central Library Anime Club

The Anime Club usually meets on the first Monday of each month from 4-5 pm in the Central Library Community Room. However there are some special dates due to holiday closings and other scheduling conflicts. Here are the dates of our meetings:

Septempber 8th (second Monday)
October 14th (second Tuesday)
November 3rd (first Monday)
December 1st (first Monday)

animeIntriguing story lines, exciting graphics and huge popularity - welcome to the world of anime and manga.   These Japanese story and cartoon genres have dramatically increased in popularity in recent years, and area youths are eager to get more.  Anime fans from 11 to 19 years of age are invited to join the club, which will meet in the Community Room from 4:00 - 5:00 pm the first Monday of each month.  Members will view anime episodes, discuss favorite books and videos, and more. 

A wide selection of popular manga paperbacks is available to be borrowed from the library. For more information contact Sarah at 263-6828 x 201 or Martha at x 425.

Clubs meet weekly and are open to players of all abilities, from beginners to advanced. Newcomers are always welcome!

Chess sets are available for use at the Central Library in the Teen Central area.

US Chess Federation:
Welcome to the US Chess Federation, the official sanctioning body for over the board tournament play in the US. With over 90,000 members, we offer something for every player, from beginner to Grandmaster! In addition to rating tournaments, the USCF supports and promotes chess activities throughout the US.
Springfield Chess Club: 
The purpose of this club shall be to foster the enjoyment of recreational and competitive chess, to promote the development and improvement of chess knowledge amongst its members, and to inspire interest in chess throughout western Massachusetts.

Massachusetts Chess Association:
The Massachusetts Chess Association is an educational non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote chess in Massachusetts and represent the interest of chess players within the state to the governing body of chess in the United States, The United States Chess Federation (USCF). As part of its role as a state organization, MACA has programs in place to support the existing chess community as well as promote chess among schools and the general public.
