MASCOT CONTEST WINNER ANNOUNCED
Mascot Tells Kids that Reading Takes Them Beyond Their Imagination
A new mascot, RAMI, will greet Springfield children when they visit their local branch library. RAMI, which stands for Reading Above My Imagination, was chosen from 137 entries in a contest that invited children under twelve to imagine a name for the mascot. A class that regularly visits the Central Library Children's Room from the Robert M. Hughes Charter School, 91 School Street, Springfield, submitted the winning entry, and won a $25 Barnes & Noble gift certificate.
RAMI will appear on library publications and posters. Future plans include a RAMI costume so that the mascot can appear in person, and the library is currently seeking a volunteer who would like to sew the costume. RAMI was designed by Deanna Chrislip of Design WorkShop, Inc., in Springfield for a project supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the state of Massachusetts.
